Team Talks: Egan Wint

Egan Wint literally exploded onto the snowboard scene and has been at the forefront of progression ever since. A certified ATV, Egan can ride everything, from streetrails to powder at Baldface, all with an all of nothing approach and a big grin on her face. She has back to back wins at The Red Bull Heavy metal and a win at the DIYX in Stockholm. Egan represents Columbia as a tribute her mother but was raised in Denver, Colorado. Wint was the last rider to join Armada Snowboards eight rider team and we couldn’t be more stoked about it.

What is your snowboarding origin story? How did you start riding when you were younger?

My dad grew up in pennslyvania where he was never able to ski as much as he wanted. when he had me and my siblings we would drive to the mountains every weekend and he made sure to have us on hill asap. first we would start skiing for a few years and at around six years old we had to learn to snowboard, from there it was our choice. both my older siblings straddled the line and did both sports for a few years. one of them went on to be a professional slopestyle skier and the other a recreational boarder. I remember yearning for the board and never looking back once I had it.

What was your first real connection to snowboarding? Videos, magazines, local pros in the area?

Honestly, as my sibling was a professional skier that was the world I was immersed in. beyond that the contest scene in Colorado didn't totally appeal to me. the first time I would really connect with people from snowboarding was summer camp at copper. I think I was ten or eleven and getting to be on hill in such close quarters to the pros was unreal. I remember emailing with my camp friends in the spring to see what sponsored week we would want to go to and which pros were going when.

Where do you currently draw your inspiration in snowboarding from?

Honestly everywhere I look in snowboarding I see something inspiring. I see pros around me pushing their personal limits and the limits of the sport. I have friends working at the resort doing anything and everything to make it on snow. I see people creating for the sake of it, not to impress or go viral or to prove anything. Just sharing snowboarding, whatever that looks like to them, because they fucking love it and want to share with the world. That is what I aspire for. I want to create something the reflects myself as a person and snowboarder and send it out for someone to watch and share in that moment with me.

You are a part of one of snowboarding’s most exciting crews, TDI. Who is all in the crew and what are the plans for this upcoming winter and next?

TDI has been on a sick one, this year we are finishing up our two year project. As always we will have a smattering of community events here and there but the main focus of the season is to really put our heads down, film something we’re proud of, and make it into the first ever black and brown snowboard movie. Mark my words, we’re going to make waves with this one.

Who are some up-and-comers right now that you are hyped on?

Wow tough question, I feel like snowboarding is going off right now. My main picks for names to keep your eye out for are Charlotte Flowers, Izzy Gomez, Ava Peterson, and pretty much all of Team11.

When you first heard about the Armada program, what were your initial thoughts?

“ooOooo how are they going to do it?” Was the first thing that went through my mind. We have seen brands come into the sport before and it can really go either way. It was too early for any opinions to be made so I skeptically sat back to see what Tanner and TBird would put together. (They blew me out of the water btw they built a force to be reckoned with)

Ultimately, why did you decide to sign on?

The only thing I needed to hear was who my teammates would be. To be able to stand next to, board with, and learn from this group in particular is honestly an honor. I have known Phipps since I was like 12, Stefi and I are team 6040 (for life), to be on a trip with Ivika and Mike is a street boarders wet dream, and Juliette and Alec round it out to be the most insane crew. Seriously I can’t wait to build this thing up with this group of people.

What are you most excited about with snowboarding’s newest brand?

More than anything I am excited about the opportunity to build something new and lasting in snowboarding. As someone who works in the industry it's rare you get to see how you are impacting the space. In a few years when I see people all over the place stoked on Armada, I get to look at the people around me and say "we did that." I can't wait for that moment.
