DIYX has form for picking memorable settings. In 2023, the contest was held at an actual medieval castle, complete with a halfpipe on the roof and an improvised drop-in ramp built on top of that. Last year's edition went down in Stockholm, where Egan Wint was crowned the best all-around rider. Kraków raised the bar again, a city of history and culture that turned out to be a perfect canvas for Morgan's brand of creative urban chaos.  

Friday's action centred around the Tauron Arena, with Saturday's session moving to Park Jordana. Both days were free to attend. Friday kicked off with the Three-Trick Challenge, a boardslide of choice, a frontboard, and a press each trick rewarded with a beer and three pierogis.  

Armada's European squad showed up and made their presence felt. Mike Liddle was one of the standout performers on day one, riding the rails with a consistency and control that turned heads from the opening session. His rail game has always been a cut above, and Kraków gave him the right stage to show it. One day two, Egan Wint , delivered what might have been the moment of the weekend  a backflip through a wall of fire that stopped the crowd cold before the noise erupted. It was exactly the kind of swing-for-the-fences riding that DIYX was built for, and it reminded everyone why Wint is one of the most watchable riders in the game. 

One recap described the event as skateboarding's infamous CPH Open plus fire, plus snow, plus Berlin's Berghain. That about covers it. The DIYX formula hand built street features, a stacked international rider list, live music, and a healthy disregard for polish landed particularly hard in Kraków. Ethan Morgan himself described the weekend as "wild, out of control, but somehow also under control," noting that weeks of preparation nearly broke him, but the smiles and energy  

DIYX is fuelled by unadulterated street riding, coupled with a fair amount of caffeine and alcohol alongside it. In Kraków, it found a city that could absorb all of that and give it straight back. Poland had never hosted anything quite like it. Judging by the noise that came out of the weekend, it won't be the last time it features on the snowboard calendar.
